Our annual Social Responsibility & Sustainability Report presents highlights and performance across key topics. This includes our carbon emissions, recycling and reuse discharges to the environment, and information on other topics such as community engagement. At the University of Edinburgh we seek to make a make a significant, sustainable and socially responsible contribution to Scotland, the UK and the world. As a global and world leading University, Edinburgh benefits society primarily through the research it carries out, and the students who learn here and whose lives are influenced here. In addition, as a large organisation with hundreds of buildings, close to 40,000 students and staff, and supply chains reaching across the world, the University of Edinburgh also impacts people and nature through the way in which it operates and carries out its business. Social capital, human capital, natural capital, physical capital, and financial capital are all important for our long term success. We seek to continually improve our approach to reporting through alignment with good practice. As the eminent physicist Lord Kelvin once said "If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it." This year we focused on the inclusion of SRS information in our annual report and accounts our web based reporting and have a short standalone highlights report.
