The University was ranked among the world’s top institutions for delivering social, environmental, and economic impact through innovation. Image Edinburgh was ranked 5th internationally by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022 for its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goal on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Edinburgh Innovation supported 116 start-up companies this academic year and investment secured by student start-ups totalled over £30 million combined. The investment into student-led businesses marks a significant rise from the £11m secured the previous year. Income from industrial awards and translational awards reached £72.4m. Investment tripled for student start-ups Climate change education for bank employees and external contacts The University announced a new partnership with the Natwest Group. The partnership focuses on a £1.49 million, three-year framework-level agreement to support the development and delivery of climate change education programmes for bank employees and external contacts. The Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability at the University's Business School will lead the development and delivery of this programme. NatWest Group partnership with the University of Edinburgh Investment in innovation to address societal challenges The University and abrdn have formed an industry-academic partnership to deliver innovation in the investment sector. The partnership will establish the Centre for Investing Innovation with funding of £7.5 million over five years from abrdn, the global asset manager. It will be based within the University’s Edinburgh Futures Institute, which is focused on addressing the critical challenges facing society. Academic and business expertise across multiple disciplines will feed into collaborative research. This will support investment strategy at abrdn by leveraging world-class academic insight on the challenges and opportunities facing the company’s clients and the global investment sector. It will also drive new understanding of investment-related social and environmental sustainability issues. The partnership has been supported by Edinburgh Innovations in a cross-University industry-engagement process.
