Woodland creation survey privacy statement

Information about you: how we use it and with whom we share it.

The University of Edinburgh only uses the personal data you have provided in order to carry out a survey. The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability are leading this project and have created this survey for the purposes of understanding views and ideas from local communities and other key stakeholders, to help inform the design of the new woodland sites we purchase as part of the Forest and Peatland Programme.

We use Online Surveys and ArcGIS Survey123 as our survey platforms. We will not contact you unless you have requested an answer to a question. We will only share your information internally with colleagues related to the project. Our land management planning consultants, MH Landscape Services, helping us with the design of the site will only see your comments and no personal information will be shared with them.

No hard copies of personal information are stored. Personal information is stored electronically on secure networks accessible through the use of an encrypted laptop. Some content management systems are used which are password protected.

We are using information about you because the University has a legitimate interest in carrying out surveys to allow us to understand and consider public ideas and views as part of our management process of the multiple sites for the Forest and Peatland Programme.

We will hold the personal data you provided us for a minimum period based on business need as well as statutory, regulatory and legal requisites. This is unlikely to be longer than five years and once this period has passed, arrangements are made to securely delete all information provided. If you are completing the survey as an individual your answers will be anonymised, however if you answer on behalf of a company, the company name may be sent to Scottish Forestry as part of the planning application.

We do not use profiling or automated decision-making processes.

If you have any questions, please contact SRS.Department@ed.ac.uk
