The Student Forum brings together students and student societies, to inspire action, share ideas and encourage collaboration on social responsibility and sustainability issues. Representatives from Edinburgh University Student Association and the University’s Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability come along to these meetings to ensure that the views of students are heard, and fed back to relevant decision makers. The main objectives of the Student Forum are to: Inspire new and current students to engage in SRS activity Encourage peer-to-peer communication and collaboration Identify resources and support to empower students to create change Provide an opportunity for students to inform University action Celebrate and communicate student action. How can I get involved? The SRS Student Forum meets throughout semester one. Students will be able to communicate with each other throughout the year through social media and a dedicated mailing list. All University of Edinburgh students are welcome to attend. Join our Facebook group Past forums 1-2:30pm Friday 25th November SRS Student Forum: Exploring Social Enterprise Greyfriars Charteris Centre, 138-140 Pleasance, Edinburgh, EH8 9RR (view map) In recent years’ students at the University of Edinburgh have expressed a growing interest in careers that will make a difference in society; whether it’s by exploring opportunities in charities or the wider third sector, or by setting up and running a start-up project. Co-hosted with Edinburgh Social Enterprise, this lunch time student forum will provide an introduction to this growing sector. It will cover the benefits, impact and opportunities that social enterprise have to offer. Students gain insight the different areas open to them, and how to make those first steps. The event will cover: What it means to be a social enterprise Variety of careers that social enterprises can offer Support for those looking at research opportunities Benefits of volunteering and placements Lunch and refreshments are provided. At this Student Forum, we’ll be exploring the real impact of sustainable, ethically sourced food. We’ll encourage attendees to think about: What effect our eating habits have on the wider environment? How should we be eating / farming / shopping for our food? How can we do things differently – both on campus and at home? The forum will also be an opportunity to meet with likeminded students and find out more about foodie societies and groups that you can get involved with.
